My singer-songwriter hobby
I have been playing the guitar since 1968. Before that, four and a half years of violin. I taught myself the guitar. And always asked good guitarists for a while to show me more. The result is a very special way of picking the strings.
Usually the words come first, and the rhythm and melody of the rhymes lead me to the song.
Sometimes I also find beautiful poems to which there is no melody. Then I make my own song out of it. Like “Am Abend”. Of course, there are also many songs – English, German, Italian, Spanish – that I like so much that I make my own version of them.
You can hear me sometimes live or on YouTube in my channel. I have linked a few examples on this page.
The Road Not Taken, lyrics Robert Frost, music by me. I found the poem in a crime novel by Jo Nesbö.
Am Abend: My song to a wonderful poem written a hundred years ago by the Jewish journalist Berthold Viertel.
Barbazzano: Live in the Munich bar Wein Feldmann my song from and about Tuscany.
If Wishes Were Horses: A song written by David Baerwald against the US war in Iraq. Music Stephen Barber.
The song was written in Domburg, one of my favorite vacation destinations on Zeeland/Walcheren in the Netherlands.
When I played it to my son for the first time, he said that it should be released as a single 😉
